Demonstrators for Outreach
As part of our education goals for SSLiP, we have developed a series of demonstrators for outreach purposes. These demonstrators have been designed to made from globally accessible materials: LEGO™.
Further details of the designs can be found on SSLiP’s Zenodo community or via the links below.
Commensurability Demonstrator
Demonstrates an important factor in structural superlubricity.
Mini Commensurability Demonstrator
A smaller version of the commensurability demonstrator.
Hand-cranked Tribometer Demonstrator
Hand-powered so the user can feel the effect of different factors that affect friction.
Prandtl-Tomlinson Model Demonstrator
Using magnets, this demonstrator brings the Prandtl-Tomlinson model for friction to life.
Working Tribometer or AFM Demonstrator
This demonstrator produces "print-outs" of a force-trace in a similar way an atomic force microscope (AFM) would.
